ELLSWORTH — Several dignitaries helped break ground Friday on the site of a 45,000-square-foot plumbing wholesale facility on Buttermilk Road.
F.W. Webb will sell major lines of plumbing fixtures and supplies and residential heating products. The site will be a wholesale distribution facility and will have a showroom for retail use.
The project should be finished by December, according to project manager Rob Lallas of Maynard, Mass.-based JM Coull, the contractor.
You've made us feel very welcome," said Pat Davis, general manager of F.W. Webb. Davis said he has gotten a good response from local tradesmen who will be happy to buy supplies locally.
Chrissi Maguire-Harding, president of the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce, said a wholesale business was a great indicator that Ellsworth is a growing community.
Charlie Slattery, F.W. Webb's vice president of purchasing, said what struck him the most while researching the city is that Ellsworth residents have persevered through a major flood (1923) and fire (1933.)
F.W. Webb has 12 locations in Maine, including Bangor. The Ellsworth facility will be quite a bit larger than the Bangor site.
Several business leaders attended the event besides Slattery, Davis and Maguire-Harding: City Council Chairman Gary Fortier, Micki Sumpter, the chamber's executive director, Phyllis Young, the chamber's assistant
director, chamber board member Julie Mason of Ashmore Bros., F.W Webb's general manager, Pat Davis, project manager Rob Lallas and assistant project manager Andrew Da Prato of JM Coull and superintendent Tom Roche
of JM Coull.
